Warre's 1994

Vintage Port

A great Vintage to match the 1963.

Description

The fruit is excellent and of remarkably even quality.

Our Expert's Recommendation

"This Vintage is beginning to show some of the wonderful characteristics of bottle matured wine. It can be drunk now but will repay a few more years in your cellar. What impressed me was this wine's inviting herbal character."

"Toque de mentol no aroma, original e com notas florais, todo ele aponta para um perfil elegante, muito fino, complexo e aristocrata. Boca perfeita, elegante, madura mas generosa. Um belo vintage para beber já. mesmo que guarde (o que se aconselha) tem de o provar agora. Uma das estrelas da prova."

“Lots of black in with the red here; viscosity at least average. Fragrant, almost elegant within its peer group for this vintage, with lots of Assam tea-leaf refinement. Some rose, too. Higher vineyards? A close-textured, dense, vivid Port, with a nutty, tight core to it that promises well for the long term. Medium density of tannin, yet it’s very fine-grained and enveloping: these just aren’t going to go away quickly. The fruit isn’t simple but has complex, rose-petal enchantment to it. Glorious Port, and what it lacks in sheer weight and push it makes up for in seduction”.

“Powerful, near opaque colour, then a generous and richly rewarding nose that marries toffee, chocolate, kirsch liqueur, and a thousand other earthly delights. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and rich, powerful and confident, with truffles and damsons and a robust and generous structure. Long and extremely elegant, its future is underlined but not compromised by its present”.

"Despite the nine years of maturity, the Warre’s 94 shows a youth and vibrancy as well as minty, eucalyptus notes and more developed raisiny, leathery complexity. There are many years ahead for this wine, if you can wait."

"…a ‘typical cistus nose’…the most intensely dark of all the Symington’s ‘94s. Very sweet, lovely flavour, perfect balance, good length… Great future."

“Fine colour. Very lovely nose. Excellent fruit here. Finely balanced and very elegant. Fullish body. Rich. Slightly raw as Warre often is. Sweet. Good tannins. Lovely long finish. This is fine”.

"A great surprise for the vintage. Displays fabulous concentration and complex character with it's layers of very sweet fruit, chocolate and cherry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins. Long finish with plenty of grip. Beautiful wine".
James Suckling , Wine Specator

"One of the finest Warre’s I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-coloured wine is made in a drier style... yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should note of the wealth of peppery, liquorice-scented and flavoured raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. This is a profound example of Warre Vintage Port."
Robert M. Parker , The Wine Advocate

“Florally scented, sweet, lush, velvety, sensual; the most charming port of the year.”
Andrew Jefford , The Evening Standard
