Warre's 1980
Vintage Port
The Warre 1980 is one of the finest produced.
Description
A very under-rated year, now developing magnificently. Rich, full and beautifully balanced. Great Vintage Port.
Our Expert's Recommendation
"This wine is now beginning to reach its full maturity and is likely to be ready for drinking. As it ages further, it will begin to develop gently into a more tawny style wine. Drinking extremely well now, and is a very good buy, as it fetches modest prices yet is much better than other more expensive years."
Press Comments
"Very good colour, attractive good soft nose, toasty clove-like aroma. Good intensity, warm soft palate, balance finish in a soft way."
"A very deep youthful colour, with a purple rim...Ripe, round plumy fruit with firm ripe tannins rising in the mouth and a peacock’s tail of a finish. Very good now but with more to give over the next 20 years or more."
A magnificently dark wine, with more saturated depth to it than many 82s and 83s… Sweet, spicy, rich, broad, really decked out with good things. A sense of generous perfumed ripeness that is almost Rhône-like here: fat fruits, bay leaves, Christmas spices… Close texture and dense, good, taut, tight, lots of power still left in reserve, while the flavour spectrum is broadening out from the tight-knit fruits of youth to something much richer and spicier. No hurry to consume this hugely diverting and entertaining wine. The fruit qualities are still very much the fresh plum and damson rather than anything more cooked or caramelly”.
“Best wine of the evening…Still very deep; fragrant; extraordinarily dense, figgy flavour and impressive, very dry finish”.
“The best colour thus far with a rich peppery nose and a meaty, complex long finish. Excellent”.
“Overwhelmingly fruity and flowing. Beautiful, round and smooth. Quite exceptional”.
“Excellent Port from an overlooked vintage”.
