Warre's 1945

Vintage Port

A small crop but an outstandingly fine wine.

Description

This is a legendary wine. One of the greatest Ports of the 20th century. It is a wine that helped create the worldwide reputation not only for Warre's but also for Vintage Port itself. It is complex, intense and multi-layered in its flavours. This Vintage Port should be savoured and appreciated for what it is, one of the world’s very greatest wines.

Our Expert's Recommendation

" Only a few bottles of this great wine remain anywhere in the world. Opening and serving such a rare Port is certain to be a memorable occasion. After many decades of gentle ageing in bottle, this Port will be delicate and wonderfully complex. It has the superb concentration of flavours and aromas of one of the greatest Vintage Ports ever made. This wine should be decanted carefully at least 4 hours before serving to allow the incredible aromas to emerge after so long in bottle. This Vintage Port will continue to improve for many decades to come, but at any stage it will be stupendously good."

Press Comments

“And just last year, finding a bottle of Warre's 1945 that I feared might have peaked, I opened it on Christmas Eve. Although the color had drifted to golden bronze, the wine was laden with honeyed flowers dusted with cinnamon and nuts. I probably could have waited another decade before uncorking it”.
Richard Carleton Hacker , Special to The Chronicle

“Immense prunes and spice on the nose and so rich, plummy, thick and luscious, with a simply beautiful prune nose. True rock-solid richness”.
Serena Sutcliffe MW , A Century of Vintage Port, Volume 8 – Sotheby’s

"Showing marvellously well…beautiful colour, lively, lovely gradation; very forthcoming, indeed, fairly forceful nose, brandy evident; a powerful wine with cockle-warming alcohol, crisp, lovely texture and elegance – for me the hallmark of Warre. Absolutely glorious; perfection…Full marks…A splendid life ahead."
Michael Broadbent , Vintage Wine

“I gave it to the Warre . . . Why Warre this time? It began with a real prunes and spice bouquet, immensely rich and plummy. Thick textured, luscious, more opulent than any other bottle on the table, it would be difficult to find such true, rock solid richness other than in this vintage. And for a beautiful, glorious prune finish, nothing can beat it”.
Serena Sutcliffe , Decanter Magazine

"This is like a delicious fresh bowl of fruit. Medium red-ruby with a garnet rim, a nose of cranberries and cherries, full-bodied, with sweet cranberry flavors and a lovely balance of round tannins. A wonderful glass of Port."
James Suckling , Vintage Port
