Smith Woodhouse 1994

Vintage Port

A great Vintage, already difficult to get hold of.

Description

The 'lotes' from the Rio Torto provided some of the finest wines for this Vintage blend, in particular the wines from Quinta da Madalena, which make up the main part of this Vintage.

Our Expert's Recommendation

"This Vintage is beginning to show some of the wonderful characteristics of bottle matured wine. It can be drunk now but will repay a few more years in your cellar."

Press Comments

“Complex, balanced and elegant, with a good potential for additional ageing. The pure, sweet raspberry flavours positively pour from the liberally spiced nose and palate”.
Wine International

“Very dark crimson with some evolution at the rim. Extremely hedonistic nose. Full, round and ripe. Nice little edge of pepper. Very positive and vigorous. Lots of sweetness on the front palate with neat, dry tannins and no excess of alcohol. Promising for the long term”.

“Still closed and withdrawn with underlying ripe voluptuous fruit. Very ripe, round and fleshy with lovely broad tannins.’ Full and complete”.
Richard Mayson , Wine International

"Very glossy but this is giving very little away on the nose. The palate is big, rich, spicy and voluptuous with firm tannins and a good structure."
Richard Mayson , Wine International

"Dark, slightly figgy and quite closed on the nose. The palate is intense and dense with high-grained tannins and lots of fruit."
Charles Metcalfe , Wine International

"Fine colour. Fullish, backward, quite concentrated nose. Good quality. Rich and tannic. Balanced. Fullish body. Very good indeed."
