Smith Woodhouse 1991

Vintage Port

Aromatic and concentrated.

Description

All the right fruit and tannin for a very fine young Vintage Port and a firmness of structure suitable to ensure a long life. Chocolate and ripe berry nose, the hallmarks of the classic Smith Woodhouse style. Reminiscent of the 1983s when they were first released.

Our Expert's Recommendation

"This Vintage is beginning to show some of the wonderful characteristics of bottle matured wine. It can be drunk now but will repay a few more years in your cellar."

Press Comments

“Fullish colour. Attractive, quite concentrated, balanced fruit on the nose. Medium-full body. Good, quite sweet, fruity attack…”.
Clive Coates MW , The Vine Nº231

"Lean, shapely…Distinctive style…impressively deep, opaque core; nose opened up richly in the glass; good fruit…good grip."
Michael Broadbent , Vintage Wine

"A lesser-known producer, but always outstanding. This beautiful, young wine shows ripe fruit, almost roasted aromas and flavors; full-bodied and medium-sweet with loads of velvety tannins and a long finish."
James Suckling , Wine Spectator
30/09/1999

"Good colour. Good intensity on the nose. Interesting plummy, black cherry fruit. Medium full bodied. Very well balanced and very stylish. This is very good indeed. Real length and flair and complexity."
Clive Coates , The Vine
