Dow's 1991

Vintage Port

A very small but superb Vintage.

Description

Due to the summer heat, yields were well down on previous years. Consequently only a small quantity of Dow’s 1991 Vintage Port was bottled. The wine is in the great tradition of Dow’s Vintage Ports; it is very dark with immense colour, excellent balance of tannins and acidity and an exceptionally attractive nose. This Vintage has the structure and quality placing amongst the finest Vintages produced in the post-war years.

Our Expert's Recommendation

"This Vintage is beginning to show some of the wonderful characteristics of bottle matured wine. It can be drunk now but will repay a few more years in your cellar."

Press Comments

“A huge, powerful brooding wine that is developing slowly – with plenty of tannins as well as concentrated fruit. Although the wine has developed sufficiently for it to be drinkable, try to hold it a bit longer”.
Roger Voss , Wine Enthusiast
01/01/2006

"Perfumed and gorgeous, with flowers, berry and plum. Full-bodied, very sweet and round, with lovely rich fruit and a long finish. A tiny bit of heat, but will come around nicely. Very pretty indeed. Hard not to swallow now."
James Suckling , Wine Spectator
01/05/2005

“Round, ripe, attractive nose. Nice and fresh. Good weight… Rich, composed and very elegant…very long and harmonious. Very Classy”.
Clive Coates MW , The Vine Nº231
01/04/2004

"Still quite closed but there is an attractive floral aroma with underlying, firm, fine fruit backed up by sinewy tannins."
Richard Mayson , Wine International
01/12/2003

"Initially an intense mulberry colour, still deep, velvety; powerful yet harmonious nose, rich, figgy; very sweet, crisp, good flesh and fruit."
Michael Broadbent , Vintage Wine
01/01/2002

“One of the great buys in young vintages of Dow. Dark and powerful, its aromas of ripe berry, cherry and raspberry open to a full-bodied palate, with firm tannins and a long, sweet finish.”
James Suckling , The Wine Spectator
01/12/1999

"The wine offers a classic display of black fruits, licorice, and chocolate aromas and flavors, as well as a full-bodied, muscular style with considerable tannin and firmness."
Robert Parker , Wine Advocate #97
01/02/1995
