Graham's 1994

Vintage Port

One of the top wines of the Vintage, to keep.

Description

It was immediately evident during the vintage that the wines would be very intense and fruity. This has been borne out by their development and Graham’s 1994 Vintage is rich, deep coloured and packed with fruit. It is distinctly reminiscent of the Graham’s 1970.

Our Expert's Recommendation

"This Vintage is beginning to show some of the wonderful characteristics of bottle matured wine. It can be drunk now but will repay a few more years in your cellar."

Press Comments

"Magenta in color. It is a great pleasure to try this bottling again as I know it has probably been close to to five years since my last visit. An expansive nose of violets, spice and poached plums set this Port off beautifully. Although still quite ripe and sweet as well, there is great depth and richness here, along with power and symmetry. Another classic Graham’s which goes down easy and has the stuffing for a very long life ahead. The tannins have taken a back seat to the fruit which is saying a mouthful, but excellent structural components will provide staying power to at least 2040."

"It is a real treat to have this for the second time in ’06 from the Symington’s cellars, the last time was with Rupert in March. Very dark garnet color. Intriguing nose of grapey and peppery notes with a dash of mocha. Full-bodied and dense plum flavors dominate the palate and this was a standout VP but had a couple of serious rivals vying to be top dog in this horizontal setting. This is a power packed punch and needs about 3 decades before this will reach prime time. Another winner from Graham’s with a pacesetting finish."

“Very complex and elegant with spice, a structured palate and huge length”.

“Firm fruit with fine tannins but slightly lean with a good, firm, spicy length”.

“Brooding authority of colour, lovely complex nose, sweet and savoury, for now and for later. On the palate, this is ripe, fulsome and articulate – a wine with extremely impressive structure, sweetness and light, a wine that will be approachable soon but has the core of persistence that will repay patience”.

“Fine colour. Rather adolescent on the nose. Fullish body. Very lovely pure fruit. Very good grip. Complex and classy. Fine”.

"Tasting Graham’s is akin to chewing on a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster. tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful and rich, with an additctive hedonistic quality. A great Graham’s."
Robert M. Parker , The Wine Advocate

“One of the greatest Graham vintage Ports ever. A monster of a wine. Incredibly intense aromas of cassis bush and ripe fruit, full-bodied and supertannic. It’s got what it takes”.
Wine Spectator
