Graham's 1985
Vintage Port

A great wine, a huge success.
Description
First unanimous declaration since 1975. Known for their huge amounts of luscious fruit and round tannins. This wine is one of the best wines of the Vintage, full-bodied, full tannins with long finish.
Our Expert's Recommendation
"This Vintage is beginning to show some of the wonderful characteristics of bottle matured wine. It can be drunk now but will repay a few more years in your cellar."

"A sip of the ’85 is like falling in love on a first date after a great kiss. It is big, ripe and sexy. This Graham’s is always a crowd favorite and along with the Fonseca, it vies for Port of the vintage. Having reached 21, it is now old enough to drink, while still showing off its youthful spirit. Similar in color to the ’94, maybe just a shade lighter in the Magenta range. It offers brambly blackberry fruit along with ripe cassis and delivers a provocative, yet slightly hot but beguiling aftertaste. Very drinkable now..."
“Deep blackberry fruit. Very rich, sweet and concentrated but extraordinarily youthful, with huge concentration and length.”
“This is a deep, dark, black-hued wine that promises well. Tight, brooding, lots of blackcurrant and moist liquorice. Promising if not yet opening up in the full bloom of its adult articulacy. Dense, dark, lovely grippy tannins, this (thank God) is properly made, properly pounded Vintage Port with a bit of stuffing for the long term. Plenty of sumptuous black fruits and lovely Christmas (cinnamon and clove) spice beginning to creep into the equation. Worth investing in. Bravo!”.
"The wonderful lustrous hue of dark amber hints at the age of this wine, and is verified by the rich coffee and burnt sugar nose. But still the luscious, syrupy, mouth-filling fruit and velvety caramel complexity provide a moment of utter bliss."
"Great meaty fruit. Bursting with health. Meat and roses on the finish…deep damsons and macerated prunes, followed by a real alcoholic, leathery kickback."
"…exhibiting its distinctive style. A gloriously velvety purple; harmonious from the start…lovely flavour and texture."
“The star of the tasting for me was Graham’s 1985, still purple in color, with a huge structure and tannins along with enormous fruit. It’s a wine that won’t even be properly approachable for another ten years.”
“What more could one want in a young vintage Port? It has elegance and great power. Brilliant, deep ruby-colour, with boysenbury and liquorice aromas, full-bodied, very fleshy, with a firm backbone of tannins”.
