Graham's 1948

Vintage Port

A truly magical Vintage. The Graham's 1948 was so good that it confirmed Graham's as a first division Vintage House.

Description

The wines have great class and power, still youthful in colour and showing continuing ageing potential.

Our Expert's Recommendation

"If you have odd bottles of this wine in your cellar, you may find that there can be a slight variation between each bottle depending largely on where they have been stored. This wine is unlikely to benefit from further ageing. Still showing excellent colour with a lovely balance of soft rich fruit at last tasting."

Press Comments

"I am still mentally wallowing in what was probably the single finest wine I was lucky enough to drink (none of this tasting lark) over the holidays – a well-kept bottle of Graham’s 1948... This was sublime... It was a stomping, attention-grabbing, tub-thumping, speechifying port full not just of violets and liquorice and prunes, but also of grainy texture and vitality. Everything seemed in balance and yet I would not be surprised if it were still going strong in 20 or even 30 year’s time."

“Pure compote of fruit nose. Real roses on the taste. So sweet and gummy. Alcohol at the end. Extraordinary middle richness. Perfection. This is all-enveloping and immensely aromatic and the richness is impressive”.

“…warm, open and inviting rosehip colour; delicious fruit, fig, crisp, liquorice; fairly sweet, lean but lovely with hot finish”.

“…the Prince was born in an unexceptional year: only the `48 ports shone. If anyone feels like giving him a birth-year bottle, Graham’s `48 was the best”.
