Our Expert's Recommendation
"
Only a few bottles of this great wine remain anywhere in the world. Opening and serving such a rare Port is certain to be a memorable occasion. After many decades of gentle ageing in bottle, this Port will be delicate and wonderfully complex. It has the superb concentration of flavours and aromas of one of the greatest Vintage Ports ever made. This wine should be decanted carefully at least 4 hours before serving to allow the incredible aromas to emerge after so long in bottle. This Vintage Port will continue to improve for many decades to come, but at any stage it will be stupendously good."
Press Comments
"It is hard to believe this is a 61 year old VP, as it shows its uncanny youthfulness and yet it is so Graham’s by nature. The refreshing mint adds an exotic quality to the elegant raspberry fruit. On the palate there is a seamless transition from the stuffed mid-palate to the smooth and sensuous aftertaste. Wonderfully complex and great length to the finish. Wow!"
"1945 is an amazingly consistent and luscious vintage. Like heavenly treacle and yet still full of red fruits… Unsurpassable."
“Great colour. Unbelievably young plums on the nose. Plums, tar and roses. Musky. Such extraordinary glycerol, youth and fruit. Utterly hedonistic and voluptuous. So rich and treacly. It is just like eating fruit…Always amazing”.
"Outstandingly the loveliest ’45…Many consistently good notes. Deep-coloured, fairly intense, lively, attractive, long “legs”; immediately forthcoming fragrance, spice, sweetness and fruit…the sweetest of the eleven ‘45s tasted in Florida in 1989 and outstandingly the best."
"1945 Graham. What the 1948 has in power, the 1945 has in finesse…still very concentrated but extremely well balanced and mellow…plenty of elegant, delicate plum flavors and a balance of rounded tannins on the finish."
