1950 Vintage Port

Also known as the "Lady's Vintage", this was a delicate and subtle Vintage. Declared by some but not all Port houses.

Drinking Status

This Vintage has been fully mature for many years, but well cellared, the best wines will be fine for years to come.

Tasting Notes

Still a pleasant and fruity wine, but most now resemble tawnies more than Vintage Port.

Climatic Conditions

The dry weather continued through April until May, at which time the rain came to stay until the second half of June. Harvesting began on the 25th September under ideal conditions.

Vinification

The musts were of excellent quality.

Winemaker's Comments

"The vintage started on 25 September. Conditions throughout were ideal, cool nights and never too hot during daytime. Graduacao (graduation) was 13.5/14...Colour was very good and the musts looked very nice.. The Quintas produced more than had been anticipated..There seems every hope that the wines of this vintage, from the best districts, should turn out to be really good."
