Q:
Where could I purchase a 1952 bottle of port for a 60th birthday gift?
A:
Hi Di, You are asking your question at just the right moment. Only yesterday Graham's, together with UK wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd, announced the release of a Graham's 1952 Single Harvest Tawny Port to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This extraordinary wine will be released shortly and will be available exclusively through Berry Bros & Rudd and at select outlets here in Portugal. Berry Bros is able to deliver most wines to Australia, however, so do check their website in the coming week for details of the availabiity of the wine, and then contact them about the shipping.
Whereas our Vintage Ports are bottled approximately 18 months after harvest and meant to be aged in bottle, a single harvest tawny, also known as a colheita, has been aged in small wooden casks all its life, and is bottled ready to enjoy, though with careful storage it will maintain its quality for some years. You can read more about this wine on Decanter.com, and we also recommend you watch the Graham's Blog in the coming weeks for more details of the wine and some special events in conjunction with the Queen's Jubilee.
