Coreira's Vintage Port 1977

Question by: Dimi, Ravels, BE

Q:

When I was searching the internet, couldn't find any information about this port:  Coreira's 1977 Vintage Port, back label: bottled and shipped by the Douro Wine Shippers and Growers Association.  Can you tell me anything about the house and drinkability?

A:

Hi Dimi,  Douro Wine Shippers and Growers Association was one of many small firms which were owned by Barros, Almeida & Ca which in turn has become known simply as Barros and is now owned by Sogevinus.  Coreira is one of several brand names under which this firm marketed its Ports.  As this is not one of our own brands, we cannot venture an opinion about this particular wine.  We can tell you that 1977 generally is characterised as a classic vintage with concentrated and potentially long-lived wines.  You can read more about the vintage conditions in our 1977 Vintage Report.  As with any Vintage Port, its present condition depends greatly on how well it has been cellared, but at 35 years of age, if it has been well cellared, it could be very interesting.  You may also want to look at our guide to the Lifecycle of Vintage Port under the Enjoying Port menu tab above.
