Value of a Late Bottled Vintage Port

January 4, 2013
Question by: Nicola, Great Britain

Q:

Hello, we have come across a bottle of Ferreira Late Bottled Vintage Port 1982, bottled in 1988.  Could you please give us some idea of its value, thank you.

A:

Hi Nicola, Only the finest Vintage Ports are sought in the secondary market.  Whereas Vintage Port is bottled young and blended for ageing in bottle, hence its value in the secondary market, Late Bottled Vintage Port is a style which is ready to enjoy when released for sale, and is not a wine that is meant to age or mature in bottle.  Although it was meant to consumed within a few years of release, if your LBV has been stored in good cellar conditions, then it may still be enjoyable and worth opening and enjoying with friends and family.  Learn more in our Guide to Port Styles.
