When to enjoy 1983 and 1955 Vintage Ports

January 4, 2013
Question by: Roger, via Mobile

Q:

I've one bottle of Warre's 1983 and one bottle of Warre's 1955. When will they be " over the top" for drinking?

A:

Hi Roger, Vintage Port - if it has been well cellared - will be a pleasure to drink at nearly any age, with the finest Ports lasting 100 years!.  If you consult the tasting notes for Warre's 1983 and Warre's 1955 you will find that both have been very enjoyable and highly rated by critics recently.  You may want to read Charles Symington's comments about how the flavour profile of Vintage Port evolves in bottle, and when you are ready to enjoy your wines, be sure to consult our guidelines about Decanting Vintage Port - Vintages with more than 40 years of age are handled a little differently from younger vintages.
