Is it likely that 2011 will be declared a vintage?

Hi Raymond, All of us would love to know that, but no Port maker will announce their decision till April or May of 2013.  Under the rules of our regulator, the IVDP, samples of potential Vintage Ports must be submitted for IVDP approval only after January of the second year after harvest - in this case, January 2013.  When those samples have been approved, then we will announce our decision and bottle and ship the wines.  You can read more about what kinds of weather conditions make for a likely Vintage declaration, as well as the how-to's of declaring in our article about the Declaration of a Vintage

Regarding the quality of the 2011 Vintage, your best source for a wrap up of the viticultural year and the harvest quality is Paul Symington's Douro Harvest Report.  If you would like even more information about the 2011 harvest, you might enjoy reading the Graham's Blog.  We provide intensive coverage of the harvest with daily reports from both the winemaker, Henry Shotton, at Quinta dos Malvedos, and our blogger who roams the Symington vineyards, wineries, tasting rooms and quintas across the Douro to report on all aspects of the harvest life.  In 2011 we kicked off our Harvest coverage on 14 September.
