Warre's 2000 Vintage Port

May 7, 2012
Question by: Roger, Croyden, UK

Q:

I have 6 bottles of Warres 2000 vintage port that I purchased from the Sunday Times Wine Club and has been in storage with them ever since. I now wish to sell them and would be grateful if you could give me a rough idea of the value and how best to go about it. Thank you.

A:

Hi Roger, We hope you will re-consider keeping this wine for your own pleasure - the 2000 Vintage was extraordinary, producing a small crop of wonderfully concentrated, intense Ports which will be coming into their own in the next few years, and the Warre's 2000 has been highly praised by critics, winning not just a Gold Medal, but both the Port and the Fortified Wine Trophies at the International Wine Challenge in 2003.

Symington Family Estates are not active in the secondary market for Port wines, so we cannot advise you on the value of the wines at this time.  If your Port have been kept in bonded storage since purchase, this will make re-sale a bit easier.  If the Wine Club does not have its own arrangements for secondary market re-sales, we suggest you contact a specialist wine merchant such as Berry Brothers and Rudd in London.  Their on-line wine exchange, BBX, is a good resource for recent pricing, and you may also want to consult Liv-Ex, which is another exchange for fine wines.  Alternatively, you might contact any of the major auction houses which routinely handle fine wines, such as Bonham's, Christie's or Sotheby's.
