Dow's Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira 2004

Release Notes

Beautifully floral with hints of violets, eucalyptus and mint as well as lifted blackcurrant fruit. On the palate, superconcentrated layers of brambly-fruit, showing also appealing nuances of mocha and chocolate, all held together by fine spicy tannins. Typical Dow peppery overtones and the classic drier edge. Great structure and power carry through into the long, full finish.

Intense, dense with bright purple rim. Equally dense nose with violets and dark rose followed by amazing, well defined ripe apricot. All follows through to the palate. Unctuous and velvety to the feel with slow flow across the palate. Complex flavours developing all the while with chocolate and spice joining all the fruits. The tannins are there but well concealed in super ripe fruit. Tremendous balance. Powerful finish parades all the characters yet again. Deserves many years to allow full potential to develop.

Very dark – blackish crimson. Just 500 cases of this were produced. Spicy fruit with a bit of oak still obvious. Very dry and punchy – lovely structure. As though this had liquorice ribbons wound round its core of fruit. Great lift, and very dry on the finish. For the moment, much more structure than fruit. Lovely vibrancy. This should develop very well.

Score: 18/20
