Quinta do Vesuvio 1991

Release Notes

The total bottled will be just 31 pipes, which lay at the Quinta after harvest until bottled in 1993. The 1991 Vintage shows all the hallmarks of a classic Vintage with an intense colour and rich and very concentrated flavours.

Tasting Notes

Dark red, light, sweet, early maturity to smell, dried figs, minerals, pepper, cold tea, well-balanced, mature middleweight Port, fine textured and with a light, mostly absorbed tannin; medium-sweet moderately concentrated, ripe, and softly fruity wine, with nice length across the palate and with a good, light, scented aftertaste. Fleshy charm, complete in a lighter single-quinta style, but still some way from the potential of the best of Vesuvio.

Score: 16/20

Robert Parker critic

Wine Advocate (magazine) source
1995 tasting note year

The 1991's impressive color and flashy nose of pepper, spice, earth, black truffles, and black fruits, suggest a developed, forward character.  Medium to full-bodied, with significant tannin and moderate sweetness, this 1991, although impressive, was almost overwhelmed in a blind, peer group tasting by some of the more rich and concentrated examples.  Already approachable, give the 1991 5-7 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 20-25.

Score: 89/100
