Tasting Notes

Very developed. Very rich and raisiny and satisfying, a little kick at the end. Pruney and utterly seductive… Clever anyone who has this in their cellar.  A bit dry, and a bit of dry curry spice, on the finish

Score: 17.5/20

Mature ruby colour, light, sweet, very dried-figs nose, a touch raisiny; medium-full moderately concentrated wine, with a very light tannin; sweet, dried fig and caramel-tinged raisiny flavour, attractive, but all up-front, without much complexity or follow-through; medium length and finishing overall a bit hollow, especially at this level.  First vintage - getting to know! Slightly dry-edged and a little coarse in comparison with the later vintages.  Similar level to the 1990, but with a little more richness.  Slightly "hot year" character, too.  Absolutely ready, may keep, but won't improve; just starting to dry out?  Drink to 2010.

Score: 15+/20

1998 tasting note year

Three notes:  leaner than the '90 and '91 in 1994.  Two years later, though still youthful in appearance, a marvellously forthcoming aroma, with full, figgy flavour to match.  Most recently [1998] less deep in colour; full, rich, very fleshy.  Three Stars, will mature to Four.
