Tasting Notes

Another very deep, youthful looking wine with a thin purple rim; closed, dense, still with more to give; rich, opulent offset by solid tannic backbone and grip, broad, ripe tannic finish and good length. Good enough to count as a full declaration?

Excellent deep ruby colour. The Malvedos 87 has intense aromas of red fruit berries combined with nuances of dark chocolate. The palate is smooth and elegant, with a luscious texture and a long lingering finish. Drinking superbly now.

Very good colour indeed. Impressive nose. Lots of depth. Classy, complex fruit. Really quite backward still. Full, rich, concentrated and tannic. This is fine.

Warm, earthy aromas, with chocolate-dipped red fruit berries on the smooth, elegant palate.

Graham’s has just released this superb 1987 vintage made entirely from its Quinta dos Malvedos vineyard in the Upper Douro. This is a classic vintage port at its best, with intense fruit, a hint of chocolate and layers of complex flavors on the finish. Although drinkable now, it should improve for another decade in the bottle. Considering the quality of the wine, this is an astonishing bargain as well.

Amazing richness and depth of sweet, chewy fruit flavours.  Dark inky colour, with intense blackberry and cherry aromas, full-bodied, with sweet grape and cherry flavours and an excellent balance of round, ripe tannins.  A great density of ripe fruit.

Score: 91/100
