Tasting Notes

Dark ruby-garnet, with a lighter edge.  Aromas of plum skin, custard and dried flowers.  Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with a chewy palate.  A little hot.  Drying out a bit.

Score: 89/100

Michael Broadbent MW critic

1990 tasting note year

When first tasted (July 1987) I noted it as having a very curious nose and flavour, with a dry, rather acidic finish.  Three years later, the citrus twist of acidity still noticeable but otherwise rated quite highly.  Deep, rich, plummy colour; richness of fruit that so often calls to mind ripe figs; sweet, fullish body, hot fruity flavour.

Score: 3 Stars

James Suckling critic

Vintage Port (book, Suckling, 1990) source
1990 tasting note year

A burly wine with muscles.  Deep, dark ruby, with concentrated cherry aromas, full-bodied and tightly structured, with ripe tannins and rich cherry and earth flavours.

Score: 89/100
