Great meaty nose, smoky and intriguing. Extraordinary gumminess. Fruit and flesh, luscious and soft. Huge impact and future. Perfect bodywork

I have always been a fan of this fine and well-made Port. Truly balanced in character, with focused flowers, spice and cherry. Full-bodied, with a sweet palate and a fine texture.

Score: 94/100

Out of 21 wines tasted only Dow’s 1970 Vintage achieved the highest ***** rating.  Superb colour, by far the deepest of the range, full, nutty bouquet, rich caramel fruit with lots of grip, very classic, very fine.

Showing well at the definitive bicentenary tasting. Maturing nicely. Some fruit, fragrant, spicy bouquet and flavour. Hot dry finish. Now - 2020

Vintage Port (book, Suckling, 1990) source

A classic vintage Port, both fleshy and firm on the palate. Medium to deep ruby, with a fresh strawberry nose, full-bodied, with focused fruit flavors, medium tannins and a long finish.  Still needs time.

Score: 94/100

By the late 1980s still fairly deep and youthfully plum-coloured.excellent nose, fragrant, forthcoming, an almost Cabernet Sauvignon-like fruit, plus liquorice. Full-bodied, nice texture, fleshy - as Dow goes.

Score: 4 Stars
