Tasting Notes

Pink tone in centre of the wine.  Smooth elegant with a hint of vanilla.  Lovely ripe nose but beginning to show some age.  Very smooth & subtle, little bite at back of mouth.  Still showing some length.  A bit light.

Decent colour, well rounded nose.  Vanilla aroma.  Correct but a little unexciting.  Dried cherries.  Short finish.

Retaining good colour, mid-brick red centre, thin browning rim; honeyed aromas, rich, exotic and rather beautiful; rich and mellow in style, mellifluous texture backed up by a firm dry finish.  A little short but standing up very well for a 1960, a year that suffered from high VA (volatile acidity).

Score: 4 Stars

1988 tasting note year

Aromatic and silky, but it is peaking now.  Medium red with a slight brown hue, a nose of berries and leather, light-bodied, with leathery brown sugar and berry flavours, light tannins and a hot finish.

Michael Broadbent MW critic

Started losing its deep colour in the early 1980s. By the mid-1980s palish, mature and fully developed bouquet. Still fairly sweet, lean but elegant, dry, slightly acidic finish.

Score: 3 Stars
