Tasting Notes

Good, mid-deed (sic) colour, amber rim, wonderful nose, still remarkably fresh and rose scented, classic; very rich opulent style (3.6 baumé), milk chocolate intensity, soft, supple and sweet, seemingly drier on the finish bitter-sweet length. Very good now, this wine will go on and on.

Graham's 1955 is one of the best wines of the year, big with generous fruit flavours. A superbly balanced wine, smooth and concentrated. Soft and delicate copper colour on the rim. Plenty of grip on the taste with soft rounded fruit flavours.

Much browner than the Dow. Heathery delicate scent with a touch of bananas and mocha. Liquorice, heathery and gummy on the palate. Rich, almost toffee-like. Real structure and power, becoming soft and melting in the glass. Only a tiny amount was made.

Rich, vigorous and classy nose. This is very lovely. Very splendid fruit. Fullish on the palate. Very clean and very pure. Very fine balance. Complex and long. Quite delicious.

Most recently, decanted at 6.30 pm, fully mature. A light, spicy bouquet that opened up magnificently by 10:30. Still very sweet, delicious flavour, glorious length. Perfection.

One of my all-time favourite ports…A big wine that has evolved perfectly. A classic in 1991 bottled by Harvey's: mature but rosy-cheeked. Glorious bouquet, a fabulous fragrance erupting out of its depths. Sweet, refined, sily, yet still tannic, fleshy yet firm.

James Suckling critic

A big, rather brutish wine packed to the brim with fruit. Medium ruby-garnet, with a licorice and violet nose, full-bodied, wth tough tannins and a balance of generous, sweet fruit flavors. Will improve with age.

Score: 94/100
