Tasting Notes

Lovely concentrated colour, great depth.  Concentrated honey and raisins, still very structured.  Sweetness due to heat of the year.  Creamy, a peppery palate with great length.  Fruit now quite subdued.  Lovely long finish.

Pale colour.  Slight VA on the nose, evidence of heat. Honey/marzipan on the palate.  Very concentrated in the mouth, good length.  Peppery finish.

Good, mid-deep brick red with a thin amber rim; high toned (lifted), caramelized and rather clumsy on the nose, hot and stick; tastes fresher, rich and quite dense, very sweet in style with a bitter-sweet core, dark chocolate, richness continues through onto the finish.  Marked down by the nose – possibly a poor bottle?

Good colour. Nose dusty at first, then creamy, opening up richly, fragrantly. Lovely flavour, lean touch, but refined and flowery. Long dry finish, fragrant aftertaste.

1990 tasting note year

In 1990, lead capsule embossed and cork branded 'Cockburn's 1955 Vintage' but bottler unknown: excellent level, beautiful colour, beautiful gradation. Soft, fragrant yet a touch of pepper and liquorice. Sweet, medium full-bodied, lovely flavour, texture. Extended dry finish.

Score: 4 Stars

Bottled by Hunter and Oliver, still deep and plummy in 1980. By [The Wine Society] tasted in the early 80s: good flavour and balance.
