Vinification

The lagares took a lot of work, the first lagar at Bomfim being drawn off after 4 days, and the aromas and graduations were reminiscent of 1926, which produced excellent blending wines.

Winemaker's Overview

Vintage started on 9th September, the earliest vintage I have ever known.
Ronald Symington
8-13 September 1943

Abel (retired Bomfim property manager) says that 1896 was the earliest previous Vintage he had personal experience of (that started 10 September at Zimbro, 15 September elsewhere) but that there was an earlier one in 1873 (just 70 years ago) when he was 16 years old.  In that year the Vintage was nearly over on the feast of Sra dos Remedios (i.e. on 8th September).
