Viticultural and Weather Conditions

After a succession of dry winters good rain came to the Douro on 31st December 1935, though it caused a flood. Hot summer, harvest began 1st October.

Winemaker's Overview

Shade temperature 100º.  Nights also very hot.  This hot weather is just what is required for the grapes which seem in good condition but not numerous in quantity.  Highest shade temperature 104º

The Vintage began on 1st October in all three quintas.  There is generally a shortage of produce, as was prognosticated.  On the other hand, there is no escolha (selection) and no podre (rot).  The mostos (musts) seem to have good colour and aroma.
