At the Dow Bicentenary tasting:  positively warm tawny; very good, rich, classic bouquet; very sweet, full body, flavour and grip.  Marvellous texture.  Hot spicy finish.

1990 tasting note year

In 1990, a bottle originally purchased as an 'Unknown (shipper) '08'.  Wax seal crisply and delicately impressed 'Hill Thompson PORT 1908, Edinburgh'.  Having knocked off and broken the neck to retain the cork in one piece I found it clearly branded 'DOW'S Vintage 1908 bottled 1910'.  The level had been good, well into the neck but the colour was pale, rosy-hued.  The nose when first poured smelled of old cork, a bit mushroomy.  It remained restrained, low-keyed.  Medium sweetness and weight, elegant, very flavoury, good length but with a distinctly dry finish.  Another, identical, a year later.

Score: 5 Stars
