Needhelp to know if bottle of wine found in parent's old house is worth?

The label says product of Portugal "Forrester's "Duke" Mellow Tawny Port Wine - Port of the 1896 vintage.  It has a serial number on the bottle.  I have been trying to look it up on line to no avail.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well, I had been going to suggest posting this in the "Ask the Experts" section, but since there seems to be little to no activity over there, I'll jump in.

I am no expert, but I can tell you that Forrester is not a name unknown in Porto.

There is in fact not a "Duke", but a "Baron" Forrester wine produced by Offley.

I don't know when such rules were made, but I am relatively sure that currently tawny ports are forbidden to use the word "vintage" on their labels.

So that's two weird things about your wine - Duke instead of baron coupled with Forrester, and "tawny" coupled with a vintage date.

You should write down every single thing on the front (and probably back) label(s).  There should be some kind of company name somewhere.
